Burkett storms back Victory Lane
TROC ROUND #6 Pace Tire 38 @ Southern National
The TROC teams were in action again at Southern National Speedway for round 6 of the TROC Big-10 Series Street Stock Championship. Southern National played host to the 14 competitors as they participated in the 38 lap Pace Tire & Wheel feature race. Peyton Burkett qualified on the front row along with Brandon Warren while the other 12 competitors fell into each of their starting positions. At the green flag most of the competitors settled in for very close battles as racing action was evident throughout the field. The near capacity crowd was able to witness close racing between Troy Luther and Kevin Ward as the two swapped positions back and forth. Keith Thorpe, Keith Gibbons, and Malachi Qualls had close battles throughout the first several laps. Chris Sutton, Michael GT Thorpe, and Michael Thorpe battled as well. But clearly in command of the race was Peyton Burkett with the only real threat coming from Brandon Warren. Ultimately, Burkett was able to lead flag to flag to secure his third win of the season. In Victory Lane, Burkett thanked his team and but mostly stayed focused on getting ready for the next two rounds of the TROC Championship.
Warren hustles to first TROC win
TROC ROUND #4 FIRESTONE
51 @ USA Speedway
In round #4 of the TROC Street Stock Championship Michael GT Thorpe took the poll for the Firestone 51 at the USA International Speedway. Starting outside pole was Brandon Warren. Warren quickly moved to the lead before the end of the first lap and was able to hold off the other TROC competitors to pick up his first win of the season. Warren Led every lap of the race and continued to fight off all challenges on each and every restart. Warren had quite a lot to say in Victory Lane. With the victory Warren took the TROC points lead, and it looks as if he's going to be a formidable Force for the rest of the season. What follows is the interview that we did with Warren in Victory Lane.
The ROC Report asked, "How are you feeling after leading 51 laps?" Warren replied, "USA was a amazing tonight. Racing with a bunch of talented drivers who been racing there for years and know the track better than me had me worried. I'm primarily a dirt guy so I knew coming into the race it would be a tuff battle. Me and the crew had trouble with the carburetor at the track, but we end up getting it fix then we were able to run a few practice laps. The motor felt good, but the chassis wasn’t just their yet. I told my crew chief something was wrong, but we didn’t have enough time to fix what we really needed to before we qualified. I was disappointed but not surprised to end up qualifying 2nd behind Michael GT Thorpe. He and the #84 have been racing there for a few years. In turn 4 of the first lap #14 got loose and had to pedal it. This gave me the lead. Then I just worked on hitting my marks. With 10 laps to go I needed some new tires, but my crew chief told me he thought I had saved just enough on my tires to hold them off. But on the last 7 laps Chris Larson and Mike Thorpe had some fresh tires so I was concerned we made the wrong call. Chris had the speed on the restarts so I tried to focus on not spinning my tires and getting through 1 and 2. My tires was bald once I finished the race but if it wasn't for my team and their hard work all night and the calls from my crew chief all weekend I would not be standing in Victory Lane. I want to thank all my sponsors and the entire TROC Group."
Burkett Leads Flag to Flag

On Sunday night January 15th. The TROC series took to the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway for the Portofino 35 lapper. The TROC street stock series dives came to compete. Payton Burkett took the poll for the 13 car field. And led flag to flag to take his second victory of the year. During the event he battled with Michael GT Thorpe and Brandon Warren and was able to survive several cautions to come home with his second victory of the young TROC series. In Victory Lane Burkett noted, “It felt great to win again! It was a lot of fun racing with Brandon Warren. I learned a lot about racing these cars with the TROC guys. My team and I will take a lot of information from this race tonight and apply that knowledge to other races we compete in across the country.”

TROC ROUND #2 K.W. Homes
46 @ Five Flags Speedway

The second race of the opening night was held at Five Flags Speedway as the TROC starting field set up for a 46-lap feature. Peyton Burkett earned his second pole of the evening but chose to start at the end of the field in protest of what happened in the first race of the evening. Brandon Warren took the early lead and paced the field for many laps. Throughout the field, interesting battles occurred between Michael Qualls, Keith Gibbons, Troy Luther, and others. Five robot drivers were in the mix with Todd Jones creating the most havoc during several on-track skirmishes. Using cautions to his favor Payton Burkett was able to work his way through the field to eventually take the lead. The many cautions and scoring issues during the second race of the evening slowed as TROC officials continued to work through their processes and scoring/timing issues. The race was scheduled for 46 laps but because of local ordinances, the race had to be halted after 38 laps as time had expired. Peyton Burkett was able to hold the lead as the clock struck that fateful hour to bring out the checkered flag. To complement Peyton's two pole positions for the evening he was able to take home the win at Five Flags Speedway and now sits a-top the TROC point standings. During his post-race interview, Burkett shared, " I was a bit disappointed after the first race, but to be honest right now it just feels great To finally get a win at Five Flags Speedway. I really enjoyed racing with these guys, and I look forward to a successful season in TROC"

Controversy
TROC ROUND #1
Controversy strikes at round one in South Boston. Peyton Burkett took an early lead in the 35-lap SRCSD race in South Boston. Burkett was leading Michael GT Thorpe, Keith Thorpe, Michael Thorpe, and Troy Luther for the first segment of the race. Following the second caution of the race there was some confusion in the scoring Tower as Burkett was erroneously given a black flag. Burkett took his penalty and dropped to the rear of the field. On the restart Keith Thorpe took the lead when Michael GT Thorpe lost an engine as he took the restart. Keith Thorpe went on to win the first race of the TROC super stock series. When Thorpe was interviewed in Victory Lane he commented, " I did not deserve to win that race. Burkett had us covered and I just happened to be lucky that Michael GT blew an engine and I was able to miss him. But I will certainly take the win. It might be the only one I get this season."
